Location: 257 Collins Street, Melbourne
Position reports to: Prof Lyn Littlefield, Executive Officer AHPA
Position type: Part-time contract (2.5 days per week - negotiable), 12 month renewable contract.
Specific duties and responsibilities
* Work with the Board of Directors, the Management Group and others to identify and make the most of opportunities for AHPA to pursue its policy and strategic objectives.
* Prepare, or organise the preparation of, submissions and reports to the Australian Government (and occasionally State Governments) and other organisations.
* Provide oversight of AHPA projects and activities, ensuring that they deliver outcomes on time and on budget. Currently this includes the National Allied Health Conference.
* Support the AHPA Management Group and the Board of Directors by preparing and distributing Agendas and Minutes for their meetings, and organising guest speakers, refreshments and teleconferencing.
* Coordinate and take hands-on responsibility for all aspects of the AHPA office, including financial and audit requirements, ASIC regulatory requirements, correspondence and record-keeping. Provide support to AHPA subgroups, including AHPARR (AHPA Rural and Remote) and AHPA representatives on external committees and similar bodies.
* Facilitate AHPA’s internal and external communications, including the website, Facts Sheets and Annual report and Directory listings.
Knowledge, experience and key attributes
* A good grasp of current political and health issues at national level.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including capacity to deal effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of stakeholders.
* Highly developed communication skills, including ability to research and draft correspondence, submissions and reports, in consultation with AHPA members and other stakeholders.
* Capacity to manage a variety of detailed and complex tasks with a minimum of direction.
* Administrative and financial skills required for managing a small office.
* Ability to plan and manage time effectively, meet deadlines and work independently.
* Good computer skills, including familiarity with Excel.
* Tertiary qualifications, preferably with a health focus.
* Experience and proven effectiveness in project management and policy development would be highly regarded.
* Ability to undertake interstate travel as required.
